    Madison College's Intensive Post-baccalaureate Biotechnology Certificate offers hands-on training for professionals who have a bachelor's degree and want to learn biotechnology skills needed to be successful in the job market. 

    Program Prerequisites

    To enroll in the Intensive Post-baccalaureate Biotechnology Certificate, you must have a bachelor’s degree with a background in biology and chemistry. Knowledge of genetics and microbiology is helpful.

    Program Courses

    Courses are developed with local industry advice and are taught in fully equipped laboratories that allow you access to the supplies and equipment used in the industry. Coursework is group-oriented and project-based. You will:

    • Learn about the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) current good manufacturing practice (cGMP).
    • Practice documentation.
    • Work with advanced instrumentation.
    • Introduce genes into bacteria.
    • Perform Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
    • Purify proteins.
    • Work with mammalian cell culture.
    • Learn about the biotechnology industry.

    Program Details

    Courses must be completed in one semester. This program is offered in Fall semesters only.

    Students in the Biotech Post-baccalaureate Intensive Certificate must attend full time.

    To Apply

    Earning a certificate is a great way to expand your skill set, and it adds professionalism to a resume! This certificate only admits applicants for the fall term. To apply, proceed to the online application.

    International students who wish to apply for, maintain, or transfer their F-1 student visa status to Madison College are required to complete the International Admission Process.

    Admission Requirements

    All materials must be submitted by the application deadline.

    Official transcripts must be sent from the institutions you attended and show completion of the following criteria within the last seven years:

    • Bachelor's degree in a biological science or chemistry
    • Two semesters of college chemistry
    • Two semesters of college biology

    Additional Notes

    • Certificate programs are not eligible for financial aid
    • Class capacity is limited and is available on a first come, first served basis
    • This certificate fills on a first-come, first-served basis; once capacity has been reached, it does not maintain a waitlist
    • Students who have already completed the certificate coursework at the time of application will receive the certificate diploma at the end of the term of application

  • Transfer Opportunities

    UW System Schools

    Eligible students will be admitted to Madison College as Biotechnology Intensive Post-Baccalaureate Certificate (900072) students. Upon completion of the prescribed coursework at Madison College, the 15 college credits earned in the Biotechnology Post-Baccalaureate certificate program will be transferred back to UW-Platteville as coursework to be applied toward the undergraduate degree granted by UW-Platteville. Students will need to have completed at least 60 credit hours prior to starting the Biotech Int. PB cert., will provide evidence that undergrad coursework is either completed or is outlined in an approved degree completion plan, and must prove that they've completed the following courses: General Chem I & II (Chem 1140 & 1240), Unity of Life (Bio 1650), Microbiology (Bio 3240), and Genetics (Bio 3330).

    Wisconsin Private Schools

    Marian College students may begin the Biotechnology Post Baccalaureate Intensive (BPI) certificate after earning 70 credits and meeting BPI prerequisite requirements. Coursework earned at Madison College will transfer to Marian College to fulfill degree requirements according to current policies.
