The College Try gives eligible students the opportunity to try degree-credit classes for 7 calendar days from the class start date at no cost before committing to them for the semester.

  • Who is eligible?

    Brand new students to the College, returning students who were enrolled prior to Fall 2020 but not since then, and students who may have signed up for classes since Fall 2020 but dropped them all during the refund period before receiving a grade.

    Students who earned a grade (letter grade A-F or withdrew and received a grade of W) during Fall 2020, Spring 2021, or Summer 2021 semesters are not eligible for the College Try for Fall 2021.

    Are all courses eligible for the College Try?

    Only degree-credit courses are eligible for the College Try.

  • How does it work?

    How do I enroll in the College Try?

    Simply enroll in degree credit classes as you normally would.

    What does it cost?

    The College Try is a 7 day, risk free trial period for eligible students. Class(es) dropped within 7 calendar days of the class start date will not accrue any class costs or fees*.

    If you stay enrolled in classes after the trial period, you will be responsible for all tuition and fees. Any classes dropped after the trial period would be billed according to the normal refund policy.

    *Students will be billed for items rented/borrowed from Madison College that are not returned as required. More information about technology checkout and textbook rental may be found within this FAQ and at the time of checkout.

    How do I drop classes?

    Complete the College Try Drop Form within the first 7 calendar days of your class and select the class(es) you wish to drop. Simple as that!

  • Should I apply for financial aid?

    If you plan to use financial aid, it is important to submit the FAFSA and apply to your Madison College academic program as soon as possible. If you have previously received financial aid at Madison College or elsewhere, you must be in good standing to qualify for aid. If you have any questions about the financial aid process or if you need help determining if you can receive financial aid, email the financial aid team at financialaid@madisoncollege.edu right away.

  • Can I get a bus pass?

    You may request a Madison Metro bus pass as an enrolled student. If you decide to drop all your classes during the College Try period, your bus pass will be canceled.

  • What if I don’t have a computer or internet access?

    We’ve got you covered! Madison College provides open access to college laptops and a wi-fi hotspot. This is true even during your 7-day trial. If you opt out after 7 days, you’ll need to return the equipment to us. If you decide to continue, you can keep the laptop and hotspot through the semester.   • If I petition to enter a high demand program and drop during the College Try period, what happens?

    If you petition to enter a high demand program and then drop during the College Try period, you would lose your petition status and would need to re-apply for a future semester. Before petitioning, you are highly encouraged to speak with your advisor or program faculty about any questions or concerns you may have about starting core classes during Fall 2021.

  • If I drop my classes, what do I do with rented textbooks or other items purchased from the Bookstore?

    If you use the Madison College textbook rental and drop a class(es), you must return those books before the end of that semester or you will be billed for the cost of the books/materials.

    If you purchased items from the bookstore, the regular bookstore refund policy applies.
